Pitbull Is Going To... Alaska?

• It's official: Pitbull is taking his hip-shaking beats to Alaska. Kodiak, Alaska, that is -- the most remote city in the state.

  This unlikely tour stop was the result of a marketing deal and a little mischief.

  For his promotion with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Pitbull announced to his fans that he would perform at whichever Wal-Mart got the most "likes" on it's Facebook page.

  A writer for The Boston Phoenix, David Thorpe, thought it would be amusing to put a twist on the contest and send the rapper to one of the smallest cities in Alaska. He encouraged people to "like" the Wal-Mart in Kodiak.

  The city, with a population of 6,100, surprisingly ended up with more than 70,000 "likes." Pitbull then posted a YouTube video of himself from his tour in Madrid, Spain saying, "I heard that Kodiak, Alaska, has the most 'likes' due to someone who thinks he was playing a prank."

  But Pitbull doesn't plan on going there solo.

  "I want to invite that someone who thinks it's a joke, to Kodiak, Alaska, with me," he said.

  According to The Associated Press, Thorpe has accepted the invitation, but he has to financially prepare first, "since Pitbull's invitation doesn't include actually getting me there."

  Thorpe's goal behind his scheme was to disrupt a corporate social-media campaign. But Pitbull doesn't seem too bothered by the disruption.

  "OK, great, this sounds really good. You have to understand I will go anywhere in the world for my fans," said the rapper.

  It is not yet clear whether the rapper will perform two days or one in Kodiak.
